Christantus Uche Fuels Comfortable Palace Triumph at Irish Side Shelbourne.

Despite embarking on their maiden European campaign, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without star players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a comfortable result that all but guarantees them a spot in the Conference League qualifying rounds.

Another victory in their upcoming fixture against Finnish KuPS should be sufficient to seal direct entry to the knockout stages, particularly after a prior stumble against Strasbourg.

Fringe Players Seize the Opportunity

This match provided a chance for some of Palace's lesser-used players to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second beginning since joining on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a well-taken finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a second, finding the net for the second consecutive match.

A Shelbourne side that had finished their league season were no match even for a largely second-string Palace outfit. The Londoners were further depleted by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with leg problems.

Dominance Established from the Start

In spite of heavy rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A flowing passing sequence in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward finish.

Youngster Adam Wharton came close minutes later, driving a long-range effort over the bar. Nketiah subsequently appealed for a penalty after racing into the box, but the official waved away the protests.

Ex-Arsenal man didn't need to wait long to find his goal, tapping home from close range after Uche's shot had hit the post.

The home side were hanging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to avoid a booking for two agricultural challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the crossbar with a powerful header from a corner.

Yeremy Pino Wraps Up the Contest

The match was as good as over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past some comically weak challenges before calmly slotting a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.

After the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to withdraw key individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse almost scoring his very first touch, only to see his effort blocked.

Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche also blazed a glaring chance, showing there is still room for improvement in his game.

The only worry for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to make his senior debut, capping an otherwise perfect night for the visiting side.
