The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Displeasure Regarding Size Modifications
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The popular resale platform has updated its size classifications for women's and children's garments but did not contact all users about the change.
Online Platforms Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers have taken to social media saying Vinted listings now show a different size category compared to what was initially listed because of the remapping.
The platform stated the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.
They have suggested members to examine their items and adjust the sizing manually if necessary, causing user dissatisfaction.
Size Classification Changes
Previously, the sizes had both a single numeric size and a letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter with a size spectrum like S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Shopper Experiences
Frankie Bridger, who produces content about larger sizing, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Stephanie Gallen, located in Scotland, explained products she uploaded featuring size 14 markings were showing in the marketplace as measurements 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she explained.
Required Changes
A different user, located in England, explained she became annoyed due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and selling on Vinted has been paramount following partial earnings loss," she explained.
Platform Context
The app has more than 100 million users, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative compared to resale services such as eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion when a surprising modification within the service has received backlash: previously, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices after backlash from users.
